What Sets Us Apart
Legal work that earns its keep.
Not every legal firm approaches commercial work the same way. Here is why clients choose to work with Corthane — and why many of them return.

What working with us means in practice
Grounded in Malaysian Law
We do not apply generic legal templates. Our advice accounts for Malaysian statutory frameworks, judicial precedent, and the regulatory context specific to your industry and location.
Advice You Can Act On
We write and speak in language that makes sense outside of a courtroom. Our clients come away from consultations with a clear view of their position, their options, and the practical steps available to them.
Transparent Fee Structures
Our fees for defined scopes of work are stated upfront. There are no unexpected additions. Where scope is variable, we discuss a realistic range before any engagement begins.
Senior-Level Attention
Your matter is handled by a qualified practitioner, not passed to junior staff after the first meeting. The same person who advises you at intake is involved throughout the engagement.
Commercial Understanding
Our practitioners have worked closely with SMEs, partnerships, and listed entities across Johor. We understand that legal decisions rarely exist in isolation from business ones.
Reasonable Timelines
We work to realistic schedules and communicate proactively when circumstances change. Clients are not left waiting without updates or expecting completion dates we cannot keep.
Professional Expertise
Practitioners who know Malaysian commercial law
Our team has been called to the Malaysian Bar and brings combined experience across contract law, regulatory advisory, and court-based proceedings. This is not a general practice offering advice on every conceivable topic — it is a focused commercial practice where each practitioner has depth in the areas they advise on.
That depth matters when a contract's enforceability turns on a specific provision of the Contracts Act 1950, or when a compliance question touches on the interplay between the Companies Act 2016 and an industry regulator's requirements.
Technology & Process
A structured approach that reduces unnecessary back-and-forth
We use a structured intake process to gather the information needed to work efficiently from the outset. For compliance reviews, this means a documented request list sent before work begins. For contract drafting, it means a focused initial meeting that surfaces the key terms before any drafting takes place.
The result is work that progresses without unnecessary delays — and a lower chance of major revisions late in the process that add time and cost.
Client Service
Responsiveness and consideration as standard
Legal matters often arise at inconvenient moments. We commit to responding to client queries within one working day during active engagements, and we ensure that the person responding is familiar with the matter — not a receptionist relaying messages.
We also make a point of explaining our advice rather than simply delivering it. A client who understands the reasoning behind a recommendation is better placed to make informed decisions about how to proceed.
Value & Pricing
Fees that reflect defined, honest scope
Our three core services carry published fees: MYR 3,200 for contract drafting, MYR 5,800 for a compliance review, and MYR 8,500 for civil litigation support. These represent the full cost for a standard engagement within the described scope.
Where matters are more complex or require work outside the standard scope, we discuss this with clients before proceeding. We do not add charges retrospectively.
Results & Outcomes
Advice oriented toward what you are actually trying to achieve
Legal advice is most useful when it accounts for what a client is trying to accomplish — not just the narrow legal question presented. We spend time at the start of every engagement understanding the business context, so that our advice supports your objectives rather than simply answering the question at face value.
This orientation toward outcomes is reflected in the feedback we receive from clients who find that our input helps them move forward rather than simply adding another layer of complexity to their situation.

Distinctive Features
What distinguishes our practice
Compliance gap analysis with follow-up
Our compliance reviews go beyond identifying issues — they include a follow-up consultation to work through findings and discuss how to address any gaps in a practical sequence.
Annotated contract documents
Contracts delivered by Corthane include annotations explaining the purpose and significance of key provisions — so you understand what you are signing, not just that it is legally sound.
Collaborative litigation strategy
Clients involved in civil proceedings are included in case strategy discussions, not simply informed of decisions. We align our approach to what you are comfortable with, not just what is theoretically optimal.
No-surprise fee policy
If scope changes arise during an engagement, we pause and discuss before proceeding. Invoices reflect what was agreed, not what was added without notice.
